St Mary the Virgin, North Stoke

St Mary's Church in England St Mary's Church in England Mid-13th Century church where stood a Saxon church previously. Frescoes. Last resting place of crusader Richard, Earl of Cornwall. Three stones from the original church building (c.600-700AD) are in a box by the pulpit.

TS Morning Star of Revelation




Last Friday, I was lucky enough to be invited to form part of a volunteer crew to bring Morning Star back across the North Sea from Holland after an emergency engine refit. I was mocked as we waited for the minibus to take us to Dover for the ferry and the drive to the marina in Holland. A tripod? On a boat? Why?

Ridgeway, The Python

The Ridgeway Long Distance Path crosses the A4074 at Mongewell, Wallingford, Oxfordshire in its descent from the Chiltern ridge at Nuffield to the River Thames. The path here is a bridleway and an excellent singletrack switchback known locally by mountain bikers as "The Python".

St John the Baptist, Mongewell


According to Bob, the ground keeper, St John the Baptist (c.1250) fell into disrepair between the first and second world wars. It was partially rebuilt at the expense of a local family. It is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust.
